Train Shooting: Seattle to Vancouver

I left Seattle on 20 July 2017 to meet up with my extended family in Vancouver. Took the train. I don't think there's any better way to travel if you can afford the price and the time. Maybe by yacht, but I definitely would not be able to afford the price or the time. (Yacht people, I'm a low maintenance guest.) The trip was great. Smooth ride, good service. The only negative point was that the train slows considerably as it enters Vancouver because the tracks have to be adjusted for different trains by hand. (Or something like that, I'm not a railroad expert.) I nearly blew the trip at the start. I got to Seattle's King Street Station on time. Sort of. Some construction near the station threw me for a loop as I tried to get from the Chinatown-International District metro station, and I arrived just after the 1645ish departure. Turns out I wasn't late for the train, I was late for the bus. In my defense, that mistake never seemed like a risk between DC and New York. There you were choosing between the regional liners or the Acela. I rebooked for the 1850 train.

The ride north is beautiful. If you can, I'd recommend grabbing a seat on the western side, closest to the water. But the people who sat across the aisle were also looking out of their windows a lot. Figured I'd post a few photos from along the way. The train was moving pretty fast during most of these. I didn't research any tips for shooting photos from inside moving trains. I was looking forward to having some blurriness, reflections, and a sense of motion.

Camera Notes: Shot these on my Fujifilm X100T (except for the King Street Station shot, that was on my iPhone). Minimal processing. I adjusted the exposure on several of the photos and tweaked contrast/highlights/shadows here and there. I used the Velvia Fujifilm film simulation for most of the images.
