On the Streets: Photoshoot with Tony Hammons and Aurora Flux; Date with Datenite
I haven’t posted in a while. Have you ever had a blog? If so, you probably know what it’s like to get a little off your rhythm. Your photos, writing, or other projects start stacking up, and it becomes increasingly difficult to know where to pick up again. I think that’s what does most bloggers in, that and the constant pressure to post to what often seems like a dead letter office.
I haven’t got that pressure to post. I don’t consider myself a full-time blogger (not easy). My main purpose with this site is to have a place I can point people to if they’re considering hiring me for photojournalism assignments or freelance photography and writing. That said, I’ve realized that I enjoy the blogging, even though it’s usually an audience of about two (hi mom and dad!). [Don’t you just hate the phrase “that said”? I do, but I also sort of love it. It reminds me of a boss I had who lost it when he saw the phrase in his subordinates’ writing. He always deleted it, and he usually let the person know he was not happy to see it. It must have driven him crazy when his bosses used the phrase and he was powerless to stop it.]
Where was I? Let’s just skip to where I get to the point.
Wednesday was busy. I helped my friend Tony Hammons with a photoshoot he had with Aurora Flux, two Seattle musicians. The shoot was in Pioneer Square, close to the waterfront and under the soon to be gone viaduct. Tony took a creative break for a while. I’m glad he’s back. I like talking about photography and life in general with him. We shot in about 4 locations. I can’t wait for the Aurora Flux duo to get their music online. We got to listen to some of it in their studio - sounded great.
After the shoot I headed home, swapped out some gear, and drove up to Tim’s Tavern to hear a sort of but not really secret Datenite show. A few months ago one of their singers had to make the tough decision of leaving the band. I wasn’t sure what would become of Datenite. They found another singer (terrible photographer - I didn’t catch her name) and are back at it.
Here are some photos from the day.
