Cook Weaver
Yesterday I spent the evening hanging out with friends. They’ve both recently been out of town on vacations, so it was nice to catch up. We also had a birthday to toast.
We started off at MBar. The view from their rooftop is impressive. I imagine it has to be one of the most Instagrammed places in the Emerald City. A friend of ours was behind the bar, so we had a couple of drinks, shishito peppers, and tzatziki. The food was tasty, but my budget won’t support too many visits. If you’ve got out of town guests, it’s definitely worth heading up there for a drink.
We then made the walk back to Capitol Hill. If you’ve made that walk, you know there are a couple of formidable hills. It was definitely a reminder that I need to start running again. Even a year ago that walk was a lot easier for me.
Back on the Hill, nearing the top of Roy Street, we decided we’d earned a nightcap. Perfect timing Cook Weaver. If you follow my Instagram page, you know I post a lot of photos of Cook Weaver. It occupies a corner of the Loveless Building, one of my favorite buildings in Seattle. I haven’t eaten dinner at Cook Weaver, but I have been in a couple of times for drinks, and I’ve gotten to know one of the owners, Nile Klein. He’s one of the friendliest people I’ve met in Seattle, and they run a cool place.
We sat at their small bar, which is the way to do it if you can. It allowed us to pepper Nile with all sorts of questions about the menu. I had my Fujifilm XT2 with me because I had hoped to practice some video at Mbar. We thought one of our friends was DJing, but unfortunately we got the night wrong. I decided to shoot some video of Nile making a drink so I could practice with the footage in Premiere Pro.
Here’s the video. Nothing mind blowing. Handheld, ISO 12800, Shutter speed at about 1/160th, f/2.8. I think I shot it at 1080, approximately 50 FPS. I trimmed the length, lowered the ambient volume, and added some text. I have a long way to go, but I’m really intrigued by the thought of adding video to the toolkit.
