On the Streets: Mecca

On the Streets: Mecca

I went to a show last night at The Vera Project, which is located at Seattle Center. You know the area – think Space Needle.
That little area is weird. I normally have a good sense of direction, but there’s something about that intersection at Warren and Republican that throws my compass off. It’s like a little Bermuda Triangle. I started walking home, debating whether I’d call an Uber or make the walk. The walk sounded nice, but it was late, and I had my camera.

When I saw the SIFF Uptown I stopped. I love the look of that theater. I haven’t been inside, but I imagine it’s an all around better movie experience than the mega-cinemas. I also realized that I was about to walk in the wrong direction, again. And that even after I checked the map on my phone, I’d probably still start walking in the wrong direction.

I did what any normal person would do in this situation. I put off any further decisions and walked into the Mecca Cafe and Bar. I’d never been there, but I’ve heard a lot about it. I think it is one of Seattle’s oldest bars. Or Cafes. Or Cafe Bars. I recommend following the link to their website and reading about Mecca’s history.

It’s a tiny little place. I recognized a few people from the show. I took a seat at the counter. Or bar. There was a woman behind me finishing dinner. The waitress asked her if she cared for dessert. I think she got it, but I can’t remember what it was. The waitress called her darling or hun. There were a few people at the end of the bar. My guess is they’re in the industry. They all knew the waitress. There was a round of hugs and “get home safes” when they settled up.

I just had a bottle of Rainier while I downloaded some of my photos. I liked the place. I left and started walking…in the wrong direction. I gave up and called an Uber.
