Mike's Tavern Chili Parlor

Mike's Tavern Chili Parlor

Ballard is a popular destination in the Seattle area, and deservedly so. It has a great old town historic area loaded with shops, restaurants, music, and an incredible farmers market. But if you’re heading there from Seattle, keep your eyes open as you cross the Ballard Bridge. Just off to the right is Mike’s Tavern, a blink and you’ll miss it chili parlor that has been around since 1922.

My friends and I recently made a day of it in Ballard, and we started things off there. I wanted to write a longer post about it, but I’m headed out of town tomorrow and it’s late/early. A few photos will have to do for now. And a quote from Dublin Blues:

I wish I was in Austin
In the Chili Parlour Bar
Drinkin’ Mad Dog Margaritas
And not carin’ where you are
— Townes Van Zandt (covering Guy Clark? Or vice versa?)
