Last night I went to Kate Berwanger’s Assembly Mic at Vermillion. Assembly Mic is a literary event focused on raw, unfinished works, works in progress, etc. Kate wants you to kill your darlings. And by that, she means that she wants you to take a risk.
I’m not great about going to art events, plays, or performances. I want to get better about it. I want to do a lot of things. Assembly Mic is a low stress high reward event. It’s always at a cool, independent venue. I’m always stoked when it’s at Vermillion – great art work on the walls, cool space, and a chance that Carolyn will be serving up some great food. Last night I had the vegan stew, and it was delicious. I wanted to get a second bowl, but I didn’t want to be greedy. I should have embraced the greed.
I took some photos throughout the evening. Hope you like them. I don’t have names for all of the writers, so I’m not adding any names here. Not to worry – I’ve sent a bunch of photos to Kate, and she’ll be sharing them on Facebook and is in touch with the writers. I’ll talk to Kate and see if I can get a name for everyone pictured here and will update. (If you want photos like this for one of your events, give me a shout.)
