There's an excellent article by Christopher Flavelle in the New York Times about climate change and the difficult decisions facing residents of the Outer Banks. Erin Schaff's accompanying photography and videos are fantastic.
Climate change is one of those macro issues that can be challenging to get one's head around. That's why I think reporting like this are so important. The people in this article all seem to acknowledge they're on borrowed time with respect to the rising ocean waters. Most of the disagreements mentioned center on taxes - who's going to pay to buy more time?
The Outer Banks are beautiful. Went a few times with friends in the late 90s. Even evacuated once because of an approaching storm or hurricane. I'm glad we were sensible - no one in the group argued that we should try to ride out the storm.
